SUBSTANCE ABUSE DISORDER (ADDICTION)

 

In order to diagnose a substance abuse disorder, two of the following criteria must be present for 12 months: 

    • Risky use 
    • Social or interpersonal problems related to use  
    • Inability to fulfill major obligations due to use 
    • Withdrawal 
    • Tolerance (increased use of the substance) 
    • Repeated intent to stop using the substance or control its use 
    • Physical or psychological problems related to use 
    • Discontinuation of other activities debido al consumo 

It is classified into three degrees of severity, depending on the number of criteria present in the patient: mild (2-3), moderate (4-5) and severe (6 or more).
