ANOREXIA, BULIMIA ANDBINGE-EATING

Eating disorders are serious mental conditions in which the behavior surrounding the ingestion and elimination of food is dysfunctional.

In a
norexia nervosa there is a typical rejection towards the maintenance of a body weight considered normal for a specific age and height. It is accompanied by a significant disturbance in body image perception. It can include food rituals, drastic weight loss, hair loss, dryness of skin, brittle nails, bone loss, etc.

B
ulimia nervosa is characterized by bingeeating, i.e., episodes in which a person ingests large amounts of food in a period of less than 2 hours. During this time, the person feels they have lost control and eats more than other individuals would in a similar situation.

This is accompanied by feelings of shame, guilt, anger or frustration. To help relieve the physical and emotional discomfort, people turn to compensatory behaviors such as induced vomiting or the use of laxatives. Early signs of bulimia include: the disappearance of food and frequent visits to the bathroom after a meal.

The main characteristic of
bingeeating is the presence of bouts of overeating with a feeling of loss of control and associated physical and emotional discomfort. The condition may include bodyimage issues and dysfunction in various aspects of life.
